A programme of seasonal favourites, including:
Corelli – Concerto Grosso Op.6 No.8 "Christmas Concerto"
Prokofiev – Peter and the Wolf
Johann Strauss Jr. – Blue Danube Waltz
Ennio Morricone – Gabriel’s Oboe
Leroy Andersen – Sleigh Ride
Conductor: Robert Howard
Narrator: Roger Phillips
Join the LMO for an afternoon of festive fun suitable for all the family under the baton of our own principal bassoon, Robert Howard, who is also a fine conductor. Whilst the programme is yet to be finalised it will include Prokofiev’s timeless narrated tale of Peter and The Wolf, in which each character in the story is represented by a different instrument in the orchestra. We are delighted to welcome back Roger Phillips, of Radio Merseyside fame, as the narrator for this performance. The instruments featuring in the opening piece of the concert will be the strings, for Corelli’s ever delightful Christmas Concerto. The second half will include some staples of the annual New Year’s Day concert from Vienna, including Johann Strauss’s most famous waltz, The Blue Danube, and also some perennial Christmas favourites such as Leroy Andersen’s Sleigh Ride. With other delightful musical lollipops for you to enjoy there will be something for everyone in this seasonal celebration!
